A 10-print folio
"Below California includes underwater images produced over a 15-year period, which I plan to publish as a forthcoming book. For this project, I photographed at numerous locations off the California Coast — from north to south — and also off the coast of Mexico. My explorations southward convinced me that the sea is oblivious to geopolitical boundaries and I decided to expand my coverage somewhat, into adjacent waters west of Mexico’s Baja California, as these areas are truly related to each other.
"My motivation for creating these photographs comes from an inherent connection with a unique underwater wilderness, described by some modern day oceanographers as the 'Serengeti of the Eastern Pacific.' Amazingly, though, it is largely out of sight and out of mind for most land-dwellers even though its health is vital to our own physical and economic well-being, and vice versa. In this day and age, I think it’s important to stimulate awareness about the sea, to help demystify a realm that seems so alien to many folks, but is indeed very much connected to their lives. They just don’t know it yet."
