The LensWork Road Show 2011

In-the-Field Workshops

The purpose of our field workshops is to create an experience where participants can learn, share, and brainstorm in a hands-on shooting environment. Bring your cameras and necessary equipment and be prepared to work a shooting location!

Brooks will work with each participant to discuss all aspects of image creation — choice of equipment, composition, lighting, exposure — but that's not all. In particular, we'll place emphasis on how to think about the additional components that lead into a finished project — shooting for editing, sequencing, and storytelling. Most photographers simply "follow their eye" when shooting in the field, but putting forethought into such things as right-page versus left page images, close versus distant images, so-called "establishing shots" and details, all can have a tremendous impact on how and what you shoot in the field.

Co-instructors — LensWork Alumni

What makes these field workshops particularly unique is that in most locations we've invited one of our LensWork Alumni — a photographer whose work you've seen in LensWork or LensWork Extended — to join us in a co-instructional role. This will provide a unique opportunity to see their original prints and discuss with them the specifics of their project from the pages of LensWork or LensWork Extended.

Logistics

Because these are in-the-field sessions in various locations, each one will have it's own unique elements. Schedules and logistics will vary from location to location.

We'll do our best to schedule field sessions in environs of proven photographic interest — probably somewhere near, but definitely "on location." You will need to provide your own transportation to and from the field location. Where possible, we'll coordinate lunch, but in some locations you'll be advised to bring a sack lunch when we're far afield.

With some workshops we'll also include an evening session back indoors for sharing portfolios or for continuing discussions from the early field sessions. Here again, each location will have it's own variations.

Pricing

Prices will vary from location to location, so look for specifics relative to each workshop. In general, our target for these day-long workshops is $95, but some may vary depending on specifics. Pre-registration is required and may be accomplished via email to roadshow@lenswork.com or by calling 800-659-2130.
