Overview of LensWork Publishing
The premise of LensWork is that photography is more than mere craft. Photography is, or can be, a
way of life. Beyond cameras and equipment, beyond film and chemistry, beyond
pixels and technology lie the mysteries of the creative life shared by those
who strive to communicate and express themselves clearly – fine art
photographers, commercial photographers, amateurs and professionals.
LensWork is an
exploration of the path of creative photography. Through an exchange of
ideas, insight, personal experience, and opinions it is hoped LensWork will inspire photographic artists to create work which truly bears their
signature.
The focus of LensWork is ideas as well as images, imagination rather than imitation,
and an understanding of photography beyond craft. For those looking for a
more technically oriented publication, we refer you to one of the many
excellent photographic books or magazines currently available.

LensWork (print edition, bimonthly periodical)
LensWork is a 96-page, 7x8½” paperback magazine — a book-quality, paper-based, anthology-style periodical publication which focuses on photography and the creative process. Each issue featuring articles, interviews, and photographic portfolios. Non-technical and non-academic, with emphasis on the creative aspects of photography, LensWork is published six times a year and is available by subscription. Back issues are available from the publisher while supplies last. Here is an introductory video about LensWork.
The LensWork Library on DVD-ROM is a
complete set of back issues of LensWork issues #1-56,
perpetually available even after the
paperback magazines are long sold out. These
Acrobat PDF format computer files are exact
replications of the actual magazine pages
that can be read on-screen or printed to
your desktop printer. The DVD-ROM can be
played on Mac or Windows-based systems. It
requires only the free Adobe Acrobat Reader
software. There is no other installation,
setup or software required. |

LensWork
EXTENDED (multimedia edition on computer DVD, bimonthly periodical)
In each issue of LensWork Extended we include the entire content of the print version of LensWork plus more portfolio, more images, audio and video, and special features. In particular, we can include all the images from the portfolios that appear in LensWork without the compromise imposed
by the restricted page count of print
publications. Using the universal Acrobat
PDF format on these computer discs, there is
enough room for hundreds of images and
extended text in addition to audio and video
elements not possible in paper. This
revolutionary new publishing technology
offers us the opportunity to share with you
so much additional content that simply won’t
fit in the 96 pages of LensWork on
paper. You’ve asked for more; LensWork
Extended is more and then some. Here is an introductory video about LensWork Extended. |

Education about Photography and the Creative Process
In addition to our two main periodical publications, we also offer books, workshops on disc, downloadable tutorials, podcasts, blogs, and other
publishing projects that can help in your own creative process. Most of our readers are photographers themselves, often long-time practitioners on their own creative path. Our mission statement proposes that photography is a way of life.
"Beyond cameras and equipment, beyond film and chemistry, beyond pixels and technology lie the mysteries of the creative life shared by those who strive to communicate and express themselves clearly — fine-art photographers, commercial photographers, amateurs, and professionals. LensWork is an exploration of the path of creative photography. Through an exchange of ideas, insights, personal experience, and opinions, it is hoped that LensWork will inspire photographic artists to create work which truly bears their signature."
To this end, we are constantly exploring new topics, offering a variety of publications in both traditional and new media. An index to these products is available here. |

Fine Art
The LensWork Special Editions and Folios are a great way to collect photography that speaks to you even if your budget is, well, smaller than that of the elite museums, universities, and well-funded collectors. Working with LensWork alumni and their images you've seen in our publications, we offer Fine Art Photography at Real People Prices™. These prints are made by us to the photographers exacting standards, approved by them as reproduction prints of their collectible originals.
If you are looking for investment quality originals, the photographers or their galleries are your best choice. LensWork Special Editions are produced for those who value the experience of owning and viewing prints but not at the cost of the typical gallery prices. Our folios of 10-15 prints range from $100-$200 for the set. In addition to our folios, we offer other prints individually for only $20.
And, because our prints are produced individually on Epson printers, we offer both color and black-and-white images. Here is an index page of our current fine art offerings. |
